                March OPAL programs: From Ireland to Lincoln's Attic              OPAL (Online Programming for All Libraries) is pleased to announce the following free online programs for March. Each program will last approximately one hour.

Wednesday, March 8, 2006 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 1:00 Central, noon Mountain, 11:00 a.m. Pacific, and 7:00 p.m. GMT:
Irish in America
Green is the color as people across the United States celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Why is this day so widely acknowledged? Who were the Irish people who came and settled here and what did they do to warrant such a celebration? Join us as we sample first-person accounts, songs, photographs, maps, and other documents that tell the story of the Irish in America. Presented by the librarians at the Library of Congress. 
This OPAL event will be held in the Auditorium.

Mr. Lincoln's Attic
Kim Bauer, Curator for Lincoln Collection at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library for the past ten years, will present this OPAL session on "Mr. Lincoln's Attic". Mr. Bauer will showcase items from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum's temporary exhibit on display for six weeks starting January 28, 2006. Join us for this informative session on Abraham Lincoln. Sponsored by the Rolling Prairie Library System

Tuesday, March 28, 2006 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 1:00 Central, noon Mountain, 11:00 a.m. Pacific, and 7:00 p.m. GMT:
Book Discussion of Norwood, the short, comic, first novel by Charles Portis
Follow Norwood Pratt, a young man from Ralph, Texas, as he travels to New York City (and back) to recover a small debt owed him by a friend and to find true love. Along the way he abandons a car, rides the rails, shares a lunch of potted meat with an acquaintance, helps a little person get to the West Coast, and rescues an educated chicken.
