Assistant University Librarian - Library Systems and Information Technology

The UBC Library is seeking an outstanding leader to envision and create
a dynamic information environment which will support the Library’s
strategic vision and will position the Library to collaborate
effectively within the province, the region and the nation.  Possessing
innovation, energy and dynamic strategic planning and staff development
skills, the individual will provide strategic leadership to the ongoing
development and implementation of electronic library resources and
services designed to support the needs of the academic research
library.  They will creatively address the existing and next generation
of library technologies and oversee the design, development and
implementation of the Library’s next-generation digital services
environment.

In addition, this senior role will provide effective leadership to the
Library Information Systems and Technology group, ensuring management of
and responsiveness to current and future technology, and developing a
strong service team able to respond to or lead a process of ongoing
development of services.

Qualifications and requirements:

The successful applicant will demonstrate strategic visioning, planning
and leadership experience, strong analytic and communications skills and
a record of successful visioning, planning and implementation involving
technology in support of Libraries.  A significant amount of library
systems experience with extensive knowledge of best practices, current
issues and trends in library technology is required. Exceptional skills
in developing technology plans and strategies, project management and
implementation is required along with the ability to successfully
collaborate with staff, faculty, internal and external contacts.  Proven
leadership of a diverse information technology group, and experience in
developing a culture of service and flexibility while upholding staff
development and wellbeing is required.  Applicants require a graduate
degree from an ALA accredited programme in Library Science along with
extensive experience in library systems supported by related formal
academic training.

Salary and Terms of Appointment:

This is a continuing position.  If eligible and qualified, the
successful applicant may be appointed with a confirmed appointment.
Otherwise, there will be an initial three-year probationary
appointment.  Normally, such an appointment is reviewed by the end of
the second year of appointment, and a recommendation is made at that
time to grant or not to grant a confirmed appointment. Salary is
commensurate with experience and academic/professional qualifications.
