[Web4lib] Active X controls

Ryan,

We do have all the plug-ins installed, though I think we have to update Flash again. We've run up against some Microsoft tutorials as well as some games that won't work without Active X. On Monday we had a mother and child pretty incensed that the child couldn't use the Disney site, so I'm trying to find a solution. We'll tr updating Flash and see what happens.

Thanks,
Gair

Are you blocking things from installing or also running? I would think
if you installed the major plugins (flash, quicktime, realplayer,
acrobat etc) then there shouldn't be any real need for anything to be
installed when they visit a site, just ran. Sites that require custom
activex controls are probably best not to be allowed.

Alternatively you could remove the links to IE and set Firefox or
another browser to default. You'd still need to install the major
plugins but if you have the computer locked down to the point of no
activex controls being run either, then it may be a way to get around
that and at least allow legitimate content to be viewed.
