(Hi Guys - seems like I sent this to the old web4lib list address the other
day. Hope it gets through this time. Thanks, Roy.)

Hi All:

Nature is today making an OpenURL interface available onto its online
content platform - Nature.com [1]. The base URL [2] is located at

    http://www.nature.com/openurl?

(And see also a related post on our Web Publishing blog Nascent [3].) We
would be pleased if folks could try this out and provide us with any
feedback. Both negative and positive indicators all very gratefully
accepted. Our aim is to provide a service that will be useful to the user
community at large. So we really do need your input, guys, to make it work.

Inbound links to Nature.com will be accepted either as OpenURL 1.0 (Z39.88)
[4] or OpenURL 0.1 (SFX) [5], or indeed as hybrids. And one especially easy
way to see hybrid links in action is to register the above base URL into
your user registration page on Connotea [6]

    http://www.connotea.org/register

and then look up a Nature.com link on Connotea and mouse over the link
presented at the far left (with your own preferred link text) which should
be an OpenURL link.

A subset of OpenURL 1.0 and 0.1 keys are currently supported relating to the
OpenURL referent - see this document for provisional documentation: for the
MS Word [7] and OpenOffice [8]. Very simply the following keys are currently
supported: DOI for identifier keys or journal identifiers (title, issn,
etc), volume, issue, spage, and (last) author for metadata keys.

If this is in any way wanting or otherwise limiting please do let us know.

Cheers,

Tony
