As soon as possible, after closing date of search.  This is a full-time, 
regular, Academic Professional position in the University Library.

*Duties and Responsibilities:*

The Research Programmer position will join a team of 10 professionals 
responsible for providing a variety of standard and custom information 
technology services and applications to the University Library and its 
users.  The Library Systems Office serves over 40 departmental libraries 
and browsing rooms located in 21 campus buildings, plus the library's 
administrative units.**

This position provides an opportunity to work in a complex, multi-vendor 
computing environment.  The Library Systems Office utilizes a number of 
Linux, Windows 2003, Solaris, and AIX servers to provide access to 
hundreds of applications and databases for the University Library.  The 
Library's nearly 1000 workstations are predominantly Windows 2000, XP or 
2003. Responsibilities for this position include: Development or 
modification of Windows, web, and UNIX applications and tools; 
Installation and administration of servers and a variety of networked 
applications; Database design, management, and programming; Creation of 
both internal and end-user documentation for our services and 
applications; Providing technical assistance to and consultation with 
library faculty and staff.

*_Required Qualifications:_* 

    * A bachelor's degree in Computer Science
    * At least two years of relevant professional experience
    * Good oral and written communication skills
    * Systems administration experience with production multi-user
      systems running Windows Server 2000 or 2003 and Linux
    * Experience applying best practices to improve system security
    * Programming experience using two or more of the following
      languages in UNIX and Windows environments: Perl, C, PHP, or Python
    * Experience developing interactive database-driven web applications
    * Experience managing web servers, preferably Apache and IIS 5 with SSL
    * Knowledge of relational database design principles and programming
      using SQL
    * Experience with MS SQL Server 7.0+, MySQL, or Oracle 8+
    * Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and
      successfully handle multiple priorities
    * Strong desire to learn and stay current with changing technologies

*_Desired Qualifications:_*__

    * A master's degree in Computer Science, Library Science, or a
      related field
    * Library work experience and significant familiarity with library
      applications and procedures, particularly with electronic serials
      management, OpenURL link resolvers, and metasearch engines.
    * DBA experience for a multi-user SQL RDBMS
    * Evidence of strong customer service skills
    * Experience using and/or managing a Web Content Management System
    * Experience with a version control system such as CVS or SVN
    * Experience integrating authentication, authorization, and file
      services between Windows and Linux/UNIX systems using Active
      Directory and Samba
    * Programming knowledge of XML, RSS, and other XML-related tools and
      technologies

*Salary: * Salary is competitive and is commensurate with credentials 
and experience.

*Terms of Appointment: *Twelve month appointment; 24 work days vacation 
per year; 11 paid holidays; 12 days annual sick leave (cumulative up to 
a maximum of 240 days) plus an additional 13 days (non-cumulative) per 
year if necessary; health insurance, requiring a small co-payment, is 
provided to employees (coverage for dependents may be purchased); 
participation in the State Universities Retirement System is required 
upon appointment (8% of member's salary is withheld and is tax exempt 
until retirement); newly hired university employees are covered by the 
Medicare portion of Social Security, and are subject to its deduction.
