  Systems Librarian

*The Onondaga County Public Library System* (Syracuse, NY) seeks an 
innovative, public service oriented systems librarian to support, 
develop, and manage information technology used in the library. The 
system has a central library, 8 City branches, and supplies automated 
and delivery services to 18 autonomous member libraries within the 
County. The Systems Librarian receives general supervision from the 
Library Director; exercises independent judgment in planning and 
carrying out the details of the work; oversees the work and supervises 
the automation and technical services staff.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

    * Establishing the long-term needs for information systems, and
      planning strategy for developing systems and acquiring hardware to
      meet application needs
    * Determination of library automation priorities
    * Coordination of network design, service delivery, server
      maintenance, desktop services and integrated library system topologies
    * Coordination of the activity of library staff engaged in the
      planning, design, development, budgeting and implementation of
      automated systems
    * Management of daily operation of local system
    * Review and assessment of vendor relations
    * Maintains current knowledge of new developments in information
      systems technology, and anticipates organizational modifications
    * Represents the Library Director, as required, on county and other
      library committees and task groups, and acts in his/her behalf in
      intra and inter-county networking ventures
    * Does related work as required

The position requires an incumbent to have:

    * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    * Demonstrated experience working successfully in a complex
      information technology environment
    * Demonstrated user-centered service philosophy and proven ability
      to work with both technical and non-technical people
    * Demonstrated technical skills sufficient to carry out the
      responsibilities of the position

    * Ability to work well as part of a team, as well as independently
    * Ability to be a creative leader committed to exploration of new
      development in information systems technology
    * Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position

The position requires an ALA accredited MLS degree and 4 or more years 
of professional level library information technology experience in a 
library or library related information field, and possession of a valid 
NY State Pub Librarian’s Professional Certificate from the NY State 
Education Dept. at the time of appointment. Salary $ 48,703 – 54,011 w/
