Engineering and Science Librarian


San Diego State University Library and Information Access seeks 
applications and nominations of dynamic, innovative, and service-oriented 
candidates for the position of Engineering and Science Librarian.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be a member of the Reference Services 
Division and:
    * Provide proactive outreach to faculty and students in the College of 
Engineering and related departments in the College of Sciences, their 
faculty, students, staff, centers, and programs;
    * Initiate and conduct course-related and resource-specific instruction 
in support of engineering;
    * Develop and build collections in all formats to support teaching, 
research, and study in engineering and related science disciplines;
    * Develop and maintain web pages for engineering subject areas;
    * Provide reference at a general reference desk and research 
consultation in engineering;
    * Participate in library and campus-wide projects.

Required Qualifications:
    * ALA-accredited master’s degree or equivalent foreign degree;
    * Undergraduate or graduate degree in science or engineering or at 
least 2 years experience in an equivalent academic, special, or research 
library;
    * Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of one or more engineering or related 
science disciplines and of the research and publishing trends in these fields;
·         Familiarity with engineering and science print and electronic 
reference resources;
·         Experience creating instructional/informational materials and 
providing bibliographic instruction;
·         Excellent oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal 
communication skills;
·         Ability to work effectively in a collegial environment;
·         Demonstrated project management skills;
    * Potential for meeting the requirements for tenure and promotion.

Preferred Qualifications:
·         Active involvement in professional development activities with a 
record of scholarly contributions and achievements in the profession;
·         Experience working with faculty, researchers, staff and students;
·         Experience with collection development;
·         Knowledge of major computer productivity programs, including 
citation manager software.

This is a full-time, twelve-month, tenure track faculty position. Tenure is 
dependent upon continuing library service effectiveness, professional 
growth and development, and service to the University and the community. 
Rank of either Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian, with a starting 
salary from: $50,100-80,136. Excellent benefits, including 24 days vacation.

The College of Engineering <http://www.engineering.sdsu.edu/> consists of 
the departments of Aerospace and Engineering Mechanics, Civil and 
Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and 
Mechanical Engineering with additional degree programs in construction 
engineering and bioengineering.  There are 50 full time faculty members, 
over 70 part-time faculty and teaching associates, 1800 undergraduates and 
300 graduate students.
