[Web4lib] putting a microfilm document on the web

Hi,

We are transferring the contents of a one hundred and sixty year old
document into a database and making it available on the web. The
document is on 35mm microfilm. It contains a lot of handwritten notes;
hence the database does not truly capture the original. We would,
therefore, like to capture each frame of microfilm as a JPEG image and
provide links to these images.

The resolution of the JPEG image will have to be quite high i.e. close
in quality to the microfilm as reading the microfilm is relatively
difficult. Is this feasible? I understand microfilm uses a very high
resolution.

What equipment should we use and what is it likely to cost? Is doing it
on a bureau basis an option?

I would appreciate any information or ideas.
