Digital Infrastructure Analyst (Software Systems Specialist I)
 
The UT Southwestern Medical Center Library in Dallas, Texas seeks a highly motivated, energetic, service-oriented individual to join the Library's Digital Infrastructure Research & Development Unit.
 
Responsibilities:
 
*Evaluate complete software programs. Assists in selection. Conducts feasibility studies. Performs market scans and comparative reviews.  Performs benchmarking studies.
*Direct responsibility for implementing major software programs.  Creates implementation plans.  Conducts post-implementation evaluative studies.  Adapts new programs to interact with already existing programs.
*Monitors programs to determine problem areas.  Tracks usage. Troubleshoots.  Performs upgrades.  Writes code as needed
*Prepares or assists recommendations for modifications or additions to digital infrastructure, hardware components, and software applications; researches costs, market options, and trends available to meet user needs; keeps abreast of new and modifies hardware and software.
*Assists in design and evaluation of web page text and visual content, navigational links, and page layout.  Investigates and recommends efficient, user-friendly database interface designs for all users by utilizing acquired experience and knowledge.
*Consults with users to determine web/online needs and recommends solutions.
*Assists in estimating required project resources.
*Sets up production procedures and prepares instructions to users for running programs.
*Works with system users to make recommendations, receive feedback, and test additions and/or enhancements to Library database systems so that systems are updated, tested, developed, and implemented.
*Completes and coordinates complex projects and reports as assigned by supervisor, which may require significant contact with other departments and outside organizations and use of various computer software applications.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
*Two years or more of relevant experience in an academic or research or large public library.
*Experience in designing, assessing and supporting Web-based services in libraries.
*Knowledge of user interface design, usability testing, and user needs assessment.
*Working knowledge of best practices and new technology in Web design (site navigation, terminology, standards) and Web services and of basic Web technologies including HTML.
*Experience in troubleshooting technical problems effectively and efficiently.
*Experience in project management.
*Evidence of strong commitment to user service and support.
*Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
*Master's Degree in Library or Information Science OR equivalent education and experience is helpful but not required.
*Working knowledge of bibliographic search and discovery systems.
*Working knowledge of metadata for indexing and retrieval, including MARC and Dublin Core.
*Demonstrated ability to develop written project documentation, process procedures, reports, policies, etc., and to develop and maintain clear technical documentation.
*Demonstrated ability to participate effectively in a team environment, working both independently and collaboratively as appropriate.
