For a hosted service, you may want to check out Atomz.
They have a free Express Search
(http://www.atomz.com/applications/search/trial.htm) that will give you
up to 750 pages for as long as you want - downside is that the free
version does put ads down the side.

We're using the pay version here an UIowa & have found it to be quite
usable & flexible.

I am looking for a good web site search engine that I can place on our
library's web site. It needs to be free, easy to implement, and not be
Google.
 It's not that I have a beef with Google, its just that they refuse to
fix their statistics reporting program.
