Uh, no, it's perfectly valid (heck, it's not even deprecated):
http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/objects.html#adef-height-IMG 

With a length, if a percentage is not stated, it is by default a pixel length:
http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/types.html#h-6.6

I don't think I've ever read of a browser that won't properly handle the height attribute...
