I should point out I'm referring to syntax such as:

<img src="foo.png" style="height: 125px;">

It is legal to embed this in an HTML document. (Didn't say desirable,
preferable, etc.)

Where I'm going is:

1. If a page is HTML 4.01 then <img src="foo.png" height="125"> is
incorrect, yes? Any good validator will point that out to even the most
HTML-casual of us. ("Not to worry, old chap, I'll have my people validate
your people's code. JEEMS!")

2. It has been said this construction will break under older browsers. How
old would a browser have to be? For that matter, in terms of support, where
do you draw the line?

3. As long as I'm at it, under what circumstances will <img src="foo.png"
height="125"> in a 4.01 page break?

4. If this is a really slow Friday [night?] for you, feel free to respond to
the essay question, "Some say (<img src="foo.png" height="125"> in HTML 4*)
is acceptable because it's widespread practice on the Web. Discuss."

I'm definitely not arguing anti-validation or "it works now, so I'm happy
with it"--in fact, just the opposite. I have a tome of reasons why It Should
Validate, Period.
