No, we're picking on Mailman--a fair topic. It's not a great interface.
We're fortunate to be on the new list(s) but this is definitely a case of
the user not being stupid. 

PUBLIB and Web4Lib migrated at the same time to the same place, and I've
been handling the same questions.
