Hugh,

We use LanSchool Teacher which is pretty simple and relatively
inexpensive. http://www.lanschool.com/

Hugh,

I am not sure about what you originally described as what you are
looking for, but I wonder if you have ever heard of a company called
DyKnow (http://www.dyknow.com) and their DyKnow Vision product
(http://www.dyknow.com/products/vision/)? This sounds like something
that may be of interest. My understanding is that this software (or
some early version thereof) was first developed at DePauw University
here in Indiana. We recently purchased this product for use in some of
our science division classes along with wireless tablet PCs. It has
been very successful thus far and is helping us to rethink the whole
pedagogical experience for students. It is expensive but we have been
able to purchase the requisite licenses and hardware through a large
grant from the Lilly Foundation that is specifically targeted at
improving teaching methods using, among other things, technology tools.

It is currently being used in a large lecture hall and we are planning
to purchase additional licenses for use in at least one other facility
on campus (Taylor University -- www.taylor.edu).
