[WEB4LIB] question about pasting html into Dreamweaver 4

As far as I know, the short answer is, it cannot be done. DW does not
carry over both the text and the hyperlinks in any of the available
Paste options in Design View, when pasting from an external application.

The workaround of pasting from View Source into Code View does work, of
course.

If you really only want to use Design View, the only thing I've found
that works is:

1) Copy from the page you're viewing
2) Paste into Microsoft Word 2000 or higher (or other editor capable of
saving as HTML while preserving hyperlinks)
3) Save as a new HTML document for temporary use
4) Open the HTML document in DW Design View
5) On the DW toolbar, click Commands - Cleanup Word HTML
6) Now you can select the links, copy from the temporary HTML document,
and paste into your working page in Design View and the links will be
preserved. Dreamweaver IS able to recognize the text plus hyperlinks
when you're cutting and pasting from Design View to Design View within
Dreamweaver. Just not from an outside application.

The only other thing I could suggest is looking in the Macromedia
developers forum or Dreamweaver Exchange to see if anyone's managed to
produce an extension to do what you want.

(Forgive me if this is an inappropriate forum for this question, but =
consulting librarians seemed a good idea when queries to more technical
=
forums got me nowhere.... )

I suspect I'm overlooking something obvious (such as "obviously, this
=
can't be done," ) but I can't figure out how to copy a url from an html
=
document and paste it into the DW Design View pane without losing the
=
formating! Seems like a simple and everyday task, but DW just renders
=
everything as plain, unformatted text when you paste it into the design
=
view editor. (I've included below the fruitless exchange I had with =
well-intentioned responders at a webmaster forum, in case there's any
=
confusion about what it is I'm looking for....) Thanks, Petter
