[WEB4LIB] UNLV Libraries launches "Southern Nevada and Las Vegas: History in Maps" website

I have to comment on the notice that I see that accompanies these
images:

"Not to be reproduced without permission. To purchase copies of images
and/or for copyright information, contact University of Nevada, Las
Vegas Libraries, Special Collections."

Yet some of them appear to be potentially in the public domain (i.e. the
Bancroft map from 1873). Is the archive assuming copyright over the
digital images, even though the underlying materials are in the public
domain?
