The November edition of Peter's Digital Ready Reference Shelf has been

Peter Jacso is a member of the Internet Librarian Hall of Fame
(http://www.rlc.dcccd.edu/lrc/hofprevious.htm). His in-depth reviews are
illustrated with dozens of screenshots and provide a multi-linked
virtual walk-through of the databases he evaluates.  Jacso was the 1998
recipient of the Louis Shores-Oryx Press Award of the Reference and
User Services Association for his discerning database reviews.

This month Peter reviews:

The public relations materials for SportDiscus conjure up an image of an
all-muscle, all-good-cholesterol database that has been on a rigorous
diet and a vigorous workout program by nutrition and fitness experts.
The reality is that it has a lot of flab and bad cholesterol due to
duplication and inaccurately and inconsistently described records.

[2] National Priorities Project Database
In an election year, we are more than ever bombarded by statistics and
factoids that are not only often distorted to support each candidate's
point, but are also relatively meaningless to most of us - the
candidates and their handlers included. This database proves that small
can be beautiful by putting bombastic numbers about the most vexing
domestic issues into context and presenting them in a tangible and
comprehensible format.
