Florida Gulf Coast University Library Services seeks an energetic, creative,
and forward-thinking library professional to further the mission, guiding
principles, and goals of the Library and University.   
Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and assess a range of innovative and
traditional library services that support teaching and learning in the
sciences, particularly the life and environmental sciences, but also
including computer sciences and mathematics. This individual will provide
advanced reference services as well as group and one-on-one instruction in
both print and digital resources for all levels of users and develop strong
connections with faculty, students, and instructional programs in the
sciences to determine collection and service needs.  Promote information
literacy by consulting with faculty on assignments and providing
instructional support.  Responsible for building strong sciences
collections.  Contribute to the development of the libraries' digital
reference services, online learning resources, tools including subject Web
pages.  Participation in Library's information literacy efforts including
course integrated instruction and teaching a one-credit course.  Contribute
to service activities of the to the Library and the University and related
duties as assigned.  The Sciences Librarian report s to the Associate
Director of Library Services
Qualifications: Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution. Academic
background with at least a BS in a life or related science and/or relevant
library experience. Experience with electronic information sources in the
sciences.  Knowledge of current issues related to academic libraries.
Highly effective oral and written communication skills. Strong
organizational and time management skills. Ability and willingness to work
collegially and cooperatively with the university community and library
faculty and staff. Evidence of interest in professional development
activities, including publication Commitment to providing high-quality
public service within a flexible and continually evolving academic library
environment.
Preferred: Demonstrated successful experience in building sciences
collections.  Successful teaching experience.  Reading knowledge of German,
French and/or Spanish. Experience with Web page design.  Experience in the
development of digital library projects.  Demonstrated involvement in
professional activities. Ability to contribute to the diversity of the
organization.
Located two hours south of Tampa Bay and two and one-half hours west of
Miami, Fort Myers, offers year-round recreational activities.  Florida does

University is a state institution of liberal arts and professional studies
serving undergraduate and masters level students that opened its doors in
1997.  It is particularly focused on environmental sensitivity,
interdisciplinary learning, innovative, high quality teaching, and service
learning.  The Library is the largest in Southwest Florida and is planning
for an addition to be completed by 2005.  As a member of a statewide
consortium, the library is also migrating to Aleph, the library management
system of Ex Libris.
APPOINTMENT: This is a non-tenure-earning faculty position with rank and
salary commensurate with experience.  Salary: $40,000 - negotiable.
