         Well, if the first code example is coded exactly the way the first 
snippet in your last message is coded, and if the single pixel GIF is not 
located in the directory indicated in the code, I don't know why it worked 
either.  But I would suggest that it's probably not worth the effort at 
this point to figure it out.

         Glad I could help.  Now, we both should take a look at coding for 
borders using CSS.  It will be interesting to see whether the different 
browsers are together on the implementation of this part of CSS.
