Reference/Special Collections Librarian

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a
librarian to develop, manage, and promote special
collections and archives in a new library (est. 1995)
located on the Texas/Mexico border. Special
Collections/Archives was established in 1999. 
Tenure-track position, reports to the Head of Public
Services.

Responsibilities:  Plan, develop, manage the special
collections and archives of Killam Library; develop,
manage web and other electronic applications related
to archives and library resources, including indexes
and user aids; coordinate technical needs of special
collections and archives with library technical
services; perform collection development and act as
faculty liaison; perform campus, community, and
institutional outreach and promotion of special
collections/archives; perform reference service and
library instruction; supervise student worker(s);
participate in library and University governance as
faculty members.

Required Qualifications:  ALA-MLS or equivalent.  Good
communication skills in public contacts and
presentations.  Knowledge of current research methods,
including print and electronic reference sources.  
Ability to manage responsibilities and maintain
effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience and/or course
work in special collections, archival management,
and/or materials preservation strongly preferred. 
Experience and/or course work in reference/public
services and in collection development also strongly
preferred.  Experience and/or course work in
cataloging and technical services and familiarity with
MARC format.  Academic background in history and
experience with web publishing.  Facility with Spanish
(especially written Spanish) strongly preferred.
Salary and Benefits:  Depending on experience and
qualifications $33,000 to $39,270 for 12 month
contract.  Benefits: choice of retirement programs,
choice of health benefit plans, State vacations and
holidays.
