academic library intranets

We have just been given a location on our college intranet.  When accessed
from off campus the intranet requires a username/password to get to it.  I
just moved our architecture slide collection to it.  Other than obvious
things such as online ILL forms and electronic course reserve, what types of
things are put on to such an intranet?  Can anyone refer me to any journal
or magazine articles?
