form error checking

I use the cgiemail script provided by our web host pair.com  It works fine
in Netscape and Mozilla, but in IE 5.5 when there is a missing field,
instead of providing the error message, the browser just displays a 'cannot
find file' page for the .txt page that formats the email from the form.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
