DIGITAL LICENSING: A PRACTICAL GUIDE FOR LIBRARIANS 
I would also like to remind you of Lesley Ellen

American  Library Association.  The book will be of
use to anyone who has an interest, personally or
professionally in Fair Use and licensing.

DIGITAL LICENSING SEMINAR SUMMARY 
In this half day seminar, participants will be led
through a clause-by-clause analysis of a typical
licensing agreement. 
Content Includes: 
licensing arrangements generally; 
what uses of works can be made through a licensing
agreement;  
sublicenses and secondary rights; 
moral rights; 
compensation; 
duration of a licensing agreement; 
who owns what; 
revocation of rights in certain circumstances; 
credits; 
warranties and indemnities. 
 
Anyone involved in the use or licensing of digital
materials, including publishers, photographers,
writers, Web site and CD-ROM developers, those in
museums, archives, libraries, educational institutions
and governments are encouraged to attend. This Digital
Licensing seminar has previously been held in Chicago,
Los Angeles, Washington DC, Seattle, New York,
Phoenix, San Jose (CA), London (England), Calgary,
Edmonton and Ottawa. 
 
FAIR USE SEMINAR SUMMARY 
This half day seminar walks participants through the
complicated, multi-leveled fair use principle. 
Content Includes: 
What does fair use mean under U.S. copyright law? 
Why is the concept of fair use so misunderstood? 
Does it exist in other countries? 
How have court cases interpreted fair use? 
When can fair use be applied to my situations? 
Does fair use apply to digital media? 
 
Anyone involved in the creation or use of copyright
protected materials, including publishers,
photographers, writers, web site and CD-ROM
developers, those in museums, archives, libraries,
educational institutions and governments are
encouraged to attend. Up-to-date information including
Supreme Court interpetations of fair use, as well as
the Napster case, will be discussed.
