What is the domain? You can offer it for sale on any number of different
sub-registrar sites (buydomains.com, register.com, etc) Sooner or later
someone may offer you some pittance for it.

What gets me is we still have a .org domain that expired 182 days ago.
We registered it a couple years back, never used it, never will, and
don't want it anymore.

The problem is if one searches Network Solutions for that domain, it
comes back as unavailable because it is still in our possession. The
only correspondence I ever receive from NS is a bill to renew -- never
an inquiry if I would like to cancel. (same story on their web admin
module)

Whatever. I wish someone *would* take it.
