internet radio in libraries

My location has been providing access to sound cards for well over four
years.

We have "audio extension cords" connected to our sound cards, which attach,
using hook and loop tape, to the side of our monitors.

Patrons must provide their own headphones. Patrons have had no problem with
this. By not providing headphones we avoid administrative, housekeeping and
sanitation issues.

Works great, very popular.

We began providing headphones at our public Internet terminals about one
year ago, and our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. We use
inexpensive headphones with a volume control on the cord, and the cost is
minimal.

Music and other audio sites are very popular, and we have noticed no effect
on our Internet speed since we made audio available. Audio use ranges from
music to news to sports broadcasts to movie trailers to everything in
between.
