Bibliographic Services Coordinator, California State University, Monterey
Bay Library

Responsibilities: The Bibliographic Services Coordinator is responsible
for providing leadership in the planning, organization, and evaluation of
the Bibliographic Services unit. Manages the workflow for acquiring,
describing, and preserving the Library's collection of electronic, print,
and media resources. Supervises 3 library assistants (total of 2 FTE).
Works closely and collaboratively with Bibliographic Services staff to
formulate and document the unit's policies and procedures.  Applies
standard resource description systems and provides direction in the
application of emerging standards for describing electronic resources.
Performs original cataloging of both print and non-print formats. Works
collaboratively with the Coordinator for Collection and Resource
Development in tracking and managing the collection budget. Collaborates
with the Electronic Resources Coordinator and Coordinator of Technology
Development in: developing strategies for access to and preservation of
digital library information; integrating electronic monographs, serials
and databases into the Library catalog; taking new approaches to
description and classifying in the electronic environment.  Participates
in reference services, information competency instruction, and collection
development. Responsible for the management and continuing development of
the Capstone & Thesis Archive (http://capstone.csumb.edu), including
serving as archive liaison with appropriate campus units. This is a
twelve-month tenure-track appointment.

Minimum Qualifications: MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited
institution. Minimum of three years professional experience in technical
services in an academic library or comparable environment. Experience in
managing one or more aspects of bibliographic services (cataloging,
acquisitions, and/or serials). Supervisory experience of staff in a
library or similar setting. Experience cataloging print and non-print
formats (videos, CD-ROM, and/or online resources). Working knowledge of
MARC formats, AACR2rev, LCSH and LC classification schedules. Experience
with a bibliographic utility (OCLC, RLIN). Knowledge of basic acquisitions
principles. Experience with one or more modules of an integrated library
system (cataloging, acquisitions, and/or serials). Demonstrated excellence
in verbal and written communication. Sensitivity to and demonstrated
interest in forwarding CSUMB's academic goals, as identified in the
University Vision Statement (http://csumb.edu/vision). Evidence of success
in a highly collaborative library or comparable environment.

Desirable Qualifications:  Experience in organizing library resources in a
Web environment and in describing electronic/digital resources in an
integrated library system. Experience managing acquisitions, including
communicating with vendors, tracking a collection budget and working with
approval plans. Experience in managing serials in both printed and
electronic formats. Demonstrated understanding of how users access
information in online environments. Awareness of emerging standards for
resource description. Experience in subject area collection development
and in providing reference and instructional services for library users.
Knowledge of archival practices and principles. Experience using HTML,
UNIX, SQL, EAD, and/or XML. Experience with the Endeavor Voyager
integrated library system. Second subject degree in a discipline related
to the campus academic program. Reading and speaking proficiencies in a
second language.

Salary: Approximately $51,000
