You can't rely on being placed on the first page of the web to get people to
use your library webpages.  That is the lazy person's way out.  You must get
out there and market your library.  Create an e-mail based newsletter.  Send
out notices to appropriate faculty groups about new books and new databases.
Get out of the library and go to department meetings.  Take part in college
wide committees and activities.  

The first page of the most effective college webpages do not necessarily lit
any departments.  They usually list the type of user: prospective student;
enrolled student; faculty/staff; general public; alumni.  The library would
then be liste don every one of those pages.
