Ed Sponsler wrote a detailed account of the scripts developed for the
Caltech Library System's Online Journal Database (OJDB)
<http://library.caltech.edu/online/onlinejrnl.htm> for a recent
presentation. The technical sections of the paper
<http://library.caltech.edu/publications/acrldenver/> detail the Microsoft
SQL database design and perl scripts used to log usage and generate static
HTML views. Database administration and the dynamic user interface
<http://library.caltech.edu/onlinejrnl.asp> to the database was programmed
in Visual Basic using the Microsoft Visual Interdev environment. These .asp
source pages will be made available on request.

Ed is currently working on a port to purely open source technology:

Apache, from IIS
mySQL, from MS SQL
Perl (Apache mod_perl), from MS Visual Interdev (VB)
Linux, from NT
Perl/Tk, to generate a GUI administrative interface

The port should be completed this summer and will be licensed via the GNU
General Public License.
