Bugger!  [Not sure if this translates well across the Pacific. In 
Australia it's a common, medium level, swear word of annoyance and 
regret].

When I went to the US in 1994 I deliberately went to Ann Arbor just 
to meet Lou. He seemed a bit put out and arranged for me to meet the 
Dean etc etc. I had hoped he would make a lot of money. And yes I DID 
buy the book.

An economic downturn does not respect talent unfortunately.
