Activities at ALA That You Do Not Want to Miss!

Dear Friends:

The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) Program and Awards Dinner/Reception has become one of our favorite ALA activities.  Please come for this festive occasion in San Francisco on Sunday, June 17, 2001.  For advanced discount tickets ($25 per person, reserved by June 12, 2001 for advance tickets; $30 ea. after June 12).

Join us for a magnificent evening to honor our awardees and scholarship winners!  Friends of Eugene Wu, Professor Judy Yung, Amy Chaw, and Richard Wang are especially welcome! You will also enjoy the following activities that you will always remember:  Excellent food, program, Broadway API series, popular Chinese songs, flute/guzheng performance, dance (a dancing floor is provided), and a Chinese E-book exhibit at the CALA Awards Dinner/Reception.  In addition, there are lots of door prizes (Many of these big prizes worth more than $25 each!!!).  Invite your friends and have a wonderful evening at ALA.

CALA-Distinguished Service Award Winner - Eugene Wu, Librarian Emeritus, Harvard-Yenching Library, Harvard University

CALA President's Recognition Award Winner - Dr. Judy Yung, Chair of the American Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Sheila Suen Lai Scholarship goes to Ms. Amy J. Chow, who is pursuing her MLIS degree at Dalhousie University in Canada, and

C. C. Seetoo/CALA Conference Travel Scholarship goes to Mr. S. Raymond Wang,  who is pursuing a doctoral degree in information literacy and technology at the University of New York at Albany.

Enjoy Chinese delicacies in a buffet style with San Francisco attention. The menu includes:  Peking Duck Slices with Lotus Bun, Mushu Pork, Shrimp Dumpling, Snow Pea Leaves Dumpling, Vegetable Dumpling, Phoenix Tail Prawn, Mushroom Dumpling, Stir Fried Vegetables, Beef Medallion with XO Sauce, Curry Chicken, Steamed Rice, and Premium Jasmine Tea.   Plus raffle prizes, tea ceremony, fortune telling and more!

Voted as the "Best Dim Sum in the Bay Area" by Focus magazine readers,Yank Sing is famous for its exceptional food and service. The Rincon Center, protected by the National Register of History Places, is a unique venue for our CALA annual event. The circular space outside of the restaurant glows under a skylight roof, soaring 80 feet or more overhead. In the middle of the skylight is a rain column with water descending like soft rain.
