Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Reference Services Coordinator, the
Reference and Instruction Librarian will provide reference and research
assistance to CSUMB students, faculty, staff, and others utilizing the
Library, using a variety of electronic and print resources. Will also
provide library orientation and instruction in using library resources to
individuals and groups. This is a full-time faculty appointment for
academic year 2001-02; assignment will include some weekend and evening
hours.
Provides reference service to students, faculty, staff and others,
utilizing on-site collections and a wide array of Web-based information
resources and databases. Instructs and assists patrons in searching
electronic and print resources.
The incumbent, in conjunction with the Instruction Coordinator, will help
develop and present instruction to library users on a variety of library
resources including online, Internet and other electronic resources as
well as on-site print resources. Conducts general or subject-focused
library orientation for selected groups of students and faculty; prepares
and provide classroom instruction upon request. Assists with evaluation
and development of CSUMB Library’s reference collection and resources.
Other collection development projects may be assigned. May participate in
the production and maintenance of the library’s Web pages; may assist with
creation and maintenance of specialized indexes and finding tools. May
prepare and maintain specialized bibliographies of print and electronic
resources, reflecting curricular areas of emphasis. Also performs other
duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
M.L.S. or equivalent degree from ALA-accredited institution. Experience
providing general or specialized reference service in an academic library,
with emphasis on electronic reference services and the Internet.
Experience with library instruction or teaching credit courses. 

Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of HTML and experience with Web page design. Familiarity with
regional academic library collections and services. Knowledge of second
language. Collection development experience in an academic library.

Salary: $33,792 - $45,456/yr. (10-month position)
