Zach S. Henderson Library seeks applications for an Information Services
Librarian, Computer Services Specialist.

Responsibilities are providing general reference services and bibliographic
instruction in conjunction with other librarians in Information Services;
teaching classes and coordinating other forms of library provided instruction
in the use of computers (from Windows basics to the use of advanced software
packages such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Access); training library student
assistants to support basic hardware and software use on library computers;
developing  the look and feel of computing in the library on public access
computers; selecting software for use on library computers; organizing the
basic computer interface; identifying new software and technologies to support
student computing on campus; serving as a technology/software trainer to
library faculty and staff and to University faculty; in conjunction with other,
independent labs on campus, designing support services for student computing;
coordinating training and services with the Systems Librarian and Systems
Department; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:  ALA-accredited MLS or other ALA-accredited advanced degree; strong
background in computers and applications software; familiarity with HTML and
web authoring tools; aptitude for teaching; ability to establish and maintain
successful working relationships with staff, customers, and the university
community; demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:  Active participation in at least one professional organization,
experience as a faculty member, and the ability to work with a diverse
population.

Reporting to the Head of Information Services, the position is a 12_month,
tenure-track faculty appointment. Salary ($33,000 minimum) and rank will be
based on qualifications and experience.  The position will begin July 1, 2001.

The Library employs 18 faculty and 44 support staff. A 24 hour_a_day schedule
provides access to the Library's collection of over 500,000 volumes, over
600,000 government documents and almost 3,500 current serial subscriptions. The
Library utilizes Endeavor/Voyager and has over 300 public networked computers
which provide access to GALILEO (Georgia's statewide library database
collection), applications software, and locally maintained databases. The

Georgia and is third in student enrollment among public universities, serving

•       a letter describing specifically the applicant's qualifications for the
position,  
•       an essay of two or three paragraphs discussing issues in use of
information technology by college students,
