Media Services/Web Librarian:  The University of Southern Mississippi
Libraries, which includes Cox Library, Media Center & Curriculum Lab at
the Gulf Park campus, Cook Library, McCain Library and Archives, the
Media Center, and Gunn Materials Center at the Hattiesburg campus, seeks
a creative and dynamic individual for a tenure-track position.
DUTIES: Managing daily operations in the Media Center; supervising
student workers; selecting media in all appropriate formats and
providing reference support for users of media collections and services;
developing content of media web site; assisting faculty, staff, and
students working on a wide variety of multimedia projects; collaborating
with library and other university staff on Web and multimedia training
programs for faculty; assisting in integration of new technologies; and
performing reference services, including bibliographic instruction.
Librarian reports to the director. Librarians at The University of
Southern Mississippi hold tenure-track, 12-month positions and have
faculty status. Professional activity and service are expected. SALARY:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include choice
of retirement plans, health insurance, and 33 days combined personal and
sick leave. REQUIRED: MLS from an ALA-accredited program; high degree of
familiarity with the Macintosh and Windows operating systems;
familiarity with media content and technology, and its potential for
network applications; demonstrated knowledge of HTML and related
standards; advanced working knowledge of Web technologies; awareness of
current trends and developments in the use of the Web to deliver
information and services; experience with computer applications related
to graphic design and Web authoring; good communication/problem solving
skills; and successful experience working in a collaborative
environment. PREFERRED: Experience in supervision, public service area
of an academic library, and UNIX and Windows NT computing. Basic
knowledge of scanning technology.
The position is at Cox Library & Media Center, located on the beautiful
Mississippi Gulf Coast overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. A new
state-of-the-art library building is scheduled to open Spring 2002.  TO
