Hi, all -

Welcome, Veronica! Good idea to delurk and introduce ourselves - I actually
joined about two weeks ago. I'm the librarian and webmaster (old-hat, been
doing it since '93 and my favorite editor is emacs) for the Gemini Observatory,
a definite nerd, and a LinuxChick.

I just wanted to answer Veronica's question:

> I wonder to what extent, if at all, IT has re-shaped the librarian
> stereotype?

If you happen to be going to SLA 2002 in Los Angeles, be sure to stop by my talk
"You don't look like a librarian: popular perceptions of librarians in the
digital age". I don't know when it'll be, of course, but it has been accepted
as a track talk. I hope you'll contribute your $0.05 when I finish building my
survey web page for the statistical part of the talk, and fill one out!
(Actually I hope most folks on this list will do that!)

Cheers,
Ruth
