POSITION: Systems Librarian; Alabama

The M. Louis Salmon Library of the University of Alabama in Huntsville is
seeking candidates for the position of Systems Librarian who will be
responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining all aspects of
systems and automation in the library in conjunction with the Electronic
Resources Librarian.  The Library has an integrated SIRSI Unicorn automation
system including circulation, OPAC, acquisitions, and serials modules, CD
ROMs via LAN, and numerous electronic products delivered via the Internet.
The library is connected to the campus-wide ethernet network and provides
full Internet access.

The Library is in the process of opening a new library wing, which will
include five computer labs, an info arcade, electronic media rooms for
distance learning, and the Systems unit.

This is a full-time 12-month faculty position with the rank of Lecturer.
Salary is negotiable from a minimum of $35,000 with a standard benefits
package, including both state and TIAA/CREF retirement.  The position
reports to the Dean of the Library, with the Systems area including one or
two full-time staff and one or more student assistants.  Teamwork with other
professional technical/instructional staff is expected.

Required Qualifications: Three to five years practical hands-on management
experience with a SIRSI system; familiarity with PC hardware and software in
DOS and Windows environments; experience with Internet, TCP/IP & LAN; good
communication and training skills; and a proactive view of library service
to users.

Preferred Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS degree; other system
administrative experience; SIRSI API class.  Some availability on nights and
weekends will be necessary.
