Just as a thought/HTML experiment (since Thomas has given us the easy answer!) I thought I'd play with creating the character using layers:

Please note: this is not really practical, but does work!

A w/ macron: Ā
a w/ macron: ā
E: Ē
e: ē
I: Ī
i: ī
O: Ō
o: ō
U: Ū
u: ū

Then, it's just a simple matter of finding a browser and a font that do
justice to them. The same page will also give the numeric references
for letters with breves.
