Title:  Systems Librarian 

Available:      Immediately 

Responsibilities: Administers INNOPAC and provides support for the local
and statewide integrated library systems for the University Libraries,
Health Sciences Library, Law Library, Regional Campus libraries, libraries
of Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI) and Ohio Agricultural Research
Development Center (OARDC), and other libraries represented in the system.
Works with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III) and OhioLINK staff to acquire,
test, and implement new software products and capabilities.  Manages and
documents INNOPAC and INN-Reach functions. Closely collaborates with the
INNOPAC Systems Manager to carry out these responsibilities.  The Ohio
State INNOPAC system is one of more than 70 comprising OhioLINK, a
statewide shared online catalog and circulation system, which also provides
access to numerous electronic databases.  The OSU INNOPAC and OhioLINK
systems provide user access 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The position
has faculty status with the accompanying University expectations and
requirements for tenure and promotions which include research, publication,
and service. 

Experience/Education: 
MLS from ALA-accredited program. Relevant professional experience in an
academic library is required. Demonstrated ability to meet faculty
requirements for research and publication.  Three years experience working
with implementation, operation and maintenance of integrated library
systems, preferably in a consortial environment; 2 years experience in
technical services, preferably original cataloging; experience with data
migration, writing documentation, and training for automated library
systems preferred. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a
team member with a wide variety of people; excellent analytical and problem
solving skills; precision, attention to detail, initiative, flexibility.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.  Excellent
interpersonal and oral and written communications skills are required.
Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills required.  Specific
content knowledge/skills: Familiarity with the INNOPAC integrated library
system, particularly with respect to system administration, database
creation and maintenance. Good understanding of MARC format and AACR2. 

Characteristic Duties: Position reports to the Assistant Director for
Information Technology.  

System Administration.  Administers INNOPAC and on a rotational basis with
the INNOPAC Systems Manager, provides evening, weekend and holiday coverage
for catalog support (via pager/cell phone).  Works closely with Office of
Information Technology, III, and OhioLINK staff in troubleshooting and
resolving system-related questions and problems and maintains database of
INNOPAC trouble calls. Maintains INNOPAC system codes and tables, including
authorization and login administration tables.  Maintains INNOPAC projects
list and contributes to IT Division monthly report.  Tests and evaluates
INNOPAC software upgrades and new modules (including Millennium) and makes
recommendations for use. Designs, implements and serves as consultant to
others in the creation of boolean strategies for report production.
Prepares and analyzes system reports; responds to and/or distributes system
messages and error reports. Coordinates special projects done by the IT
Catalog Support Team, such as the system updates required to support
temporary library closings. Notifies appropriate persons or groups of
planned and unplanned maintenance and downtime; manages downtime situations
to minimize impact on catalog users.  Presents information at Public
Services, Collection Managers and Regional Campus meetings as needed. 
Attends OhioLINK Lead Implementors meetings as needed.  Prepares and
submits enhancement requests from OSU.  Monitors problem reports, response
time, and gathers relevant statistics to support planning for enhancement
requests, staffing and equipment and software upgrades.  Does setup
required on individual staff PCs as needed to allow FTP of files from
INNOPAC  to PC. 

Language module implementation.  Works with III, OCLC, and Dept. of
Language and Area Studies and Cataloging Department staff to install, test,
and implement the INNOPAC Arabic, Hebrew, Cyrillic, and CJK modules and to
move appropriate data from the ALEPH system into INNOPAC.  The CJK
implementation is expected to include obtaining new INNOPAC records and
specifying programming to merge Chinese character fields into OSCAR records. 

Provides Technical Services support. Serves as an ex officio member of the
Technical Services Committee and submits monthly TSC virtual reports for IT
Division.  Takes primary responsibility for establishing, understanding,
and interpreting database load and indexing profiles; maintains
documentation on local and local-to- central load profile parameters and
public display profile. Provides support for special projects done by
Technical Services areas as needed. 

Other duties: Develops system documentation and trains staff on using
INNOPAC.  Maintains spreadsheet covering expenses related to INNOPAC and
prepares annual cost-sharing statements for Law, Health Sciences, ATI,
OARDC, and regional campus libraries. Monitors OSU, OhioLINK, and IUG
listservs for insight into local problems or to provide information to
staff.  Attends III workshops and IUG meeting at American Library
Association conferences. 

Contacts:    All library faculty and staff including those from regional
campuses, Law Library and Health Sciences libraries. Serves as liaison to
vendors and service contractors, especially Innovative Interfaces, Inc.,
OhioLINK staff, OSU Office of Information Technology staff. 

Salary and rank: $38,000 minimum; Faculty rank and salary dependent upon
experience and qualifications.
