OLITA/OLA in conjunction with McMaster University are pleased to announce a
special week-long workshop in TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) by the creator
of the technique, Oxford University's Lou Burnard,

The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) is an international cooperative research
effort to define a set of guidelines for the rigorous definition and
efficient processing of texts. The Guidelines provide a means of making
explicit certain features of a text using a process of called markup or
encoding. Originally specified in SGML and more recently in XML, TEI has
become a major building block for textual analysis all over the world and
an essential tool for describing digital library collections. Any digitization
project involving textual materials should include an evaluation of TEI.

<http://www.hcu.ox.ac.uk/>, Oxford University Computing Services
<http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk> (OUCS), at the University of Oxford, England.

February 1989, and responsibility for OUCS participation in the British
National Corpus <http://info.ox.ac.uk/bnc> Project, a 100 million word corpus
of modern British English. Mr. Burnard has an extensive bibliography which
