Knowledge Management: Methods and Systems" has been added to the OCLC
Institute's seminar offerings.
Technology is revolutionizing how knowledge is created, disseminated,
captured, stored, accessed, used, and preserved. Increasingly, businesses,
governments, educational institutions, the general public, and many other
sectors of society recognize that access to knowledge is key to success and
even survival. How do these trends affect libraries and librarians?
This seminar provides an overview of "knowledge management," including key
characteristics and success factors, and explores how libraries can
preserve, create, leverage, or extend mission-critical roles within their
institutions or service areas. Topics include technology and systems; data,
information, and knowledge resources; staffing and workflow issues; policies
and culture. What current library standards, systems, and methods can be
used or extended? How can or should libraries evolve to meet new service
demands for knowledge access?
The seminar format includes lecture, plenary and small-group discussions,
and a hands-on project designed to highlight both the fundamental
requirements and the desired features of a knowledge management system.
Begin creating a new knowledge management outlook and action plan. Position
yourself and your library to play new, key roles in knowledge management.
This seminar will be offered March 20-22, 2000 at OCLC's Dublin, Ohio
campus. Early-Bird Registration fees are $395.00 for OCLC Members, $445 for
non-members. After February 4, Registration fees are $445 for OCLC Members,
$495 for non-members. Registration cut-off is February 28, 2000.
