Southern Methodist University School of Law seeks a talented manager for its
Information Technology team.  The SMU School of Law is a leader in the use
of technology in legal education, and is implementing a $1,000,000 grant
awarded for that purpose.  SMU is located in the heart of Dallas, close to
major transportation and high-tech industry.  Technologies available at the
SMU School of Law include a wireless network, NT servers, classroom
instructional technology, Windows-based PCs, administrative computing, and
video conferencing.  The Assistant Director supervises three full-time IT
staff and student workers.  Principal requirements include substantial
knowledge of Windows NT, networks, web site support, PCs and applications,
and an ability to become expert in other information technologies related to
law schools and academic law libraries.  A bachelor's degree is required.
J.D., M.L.S., Computer Science or related degrees would be helpful but are
not required.  Responsibilities include some or all of the following:
manage and support the law school's computing resources, including server,
network, communications, desktop and laptop resources; supervise the law
school's technology staff; supervise the installation and use of classroom
and instructional technologies; represent the law school on campus
technology committees; coordinate maintenance of the law school's web pages;
maintain a working knowledge of the hardware and software used in the law
school; and evaluate and recommend new technologies and coordinate their
implementation.  A strong service orientation and the ability to communicate
with non-technical users are strongly preferred.  Compensation will be
$50,000-$80,000, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and the
extent of managerial responsibilities assumed.  Texas has no state income
tax; benefits are generous.  The position will remain open until filled.  To
