Under the general direction of the Area Head for Information
Technology Services, the incumbent administers the Integrated
Library System (ILS) software which we envision as a "gateway" to
other electronic resources housed locally and accessed remotely via
the HOMER system. Working within the Libraries' team structure
assists in the development and implementation of networked
information services; provides leadership for completing the
implementation and further development of the Endeavor software
products; and provides technical expertise, advanced knowledge and
independent judgment to diagnose, analyze and design solutions for
problems with the previously mentioned system. Working closely with
key individuals explores innovative application of emerging
information technologies that enhance and expand service to clients
and increase productivity of staff, and that integrate information
from disparate systems into a single, seamless interface. Serves as
the HOMER Team Leader (the ILS management team) and on other Library
teams as appropriate. 

Minimum qualifications include: an ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent
library science graduate level degree; one year of relevant library
technology experience (preferably in an academic library
environment); experience with client and server products and systems
(including user training, programming, user consulting and/or
systems analysis); ability to work successfully in a rapidly changing
environment and in group settings that facilitate discussion and
build consensus; demonstrated abilities in analytical reasoning and
problem solving; ability to work independently; demonstrated
excellent oral and written communication skills; and, demonstrated
high level of motivation, initiative and responsibility.

Desired qualifications include: experience with the organization,
protocols and software of library management systems; experience
with a broad range of software products used in the library
environment, including: DOS, Windows for Workgroups, Windows
'95, and Windows NT; MS Office Professional (Word, Excel, Access,
Power Point); Internet tools (e.g., FTP, Netscape); experience
with installation, management and maintenance of UNIX-based systems;
experience with information standards (Z39.50, MARC, EDI, HTML,
SGML); experience with SQL-based report generation; and, awareness
of current developments and issues in library automation.

University setting: The University of Connecticut, established in
1881, is a Carnegie Research I University. It was recently cited as
one of the top 20 public national universities and is engaged in
UConn 2000, an ambitious ten year $1 billion campus building project.
The main campus, situated in Storrs on 3100 acres of wooldlands and
rolling hills, is located approximately 30 miles from Hartford, the
state capital, and midway between Boston and New York City. There
are approximately 21,750 students systemwide.

University Libraries: The University of Connecticut Libraries,
members of the Association of Research Libraries, is a
technologically advanced library and the exciting center of
intellectual life on campus. The Libraries is organized in a
team-based structure to engage more fully its ongoing strategic
programs. There include, developing strong partnerships with
academic departments and key organizations on campus; shaping user
services through data collection and user feedback; providing
desktop access to fulltext, current awareness, and database
information resources systemwide; and building and preserving

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience to a maximum of
$49,488. University benefits include 22 paid vacation days/year, 12
paid State holidays, health and retirement plans, and tuition
reimbursement.
