HTTP get and put commands?

The (incredibly sparse) documentation that ships with FileMaker Pro 5
claims I can "use HTTP Put and Get commands to upload and download files to
and from" the machine hosting my databases.  The implication is that I can
do this using a Web browser.  (The FMP "manual" tells me to check my Web
browser documentation for help.)

I'm familiar with using "get" and "put" with command line ftp-ing, but
haven't a clue how one does this from a browser.  I can't find any evidence
of how to accomplish this in Netscape's or IE's help files.

Is this indeed possible?  If so, can someone clue me in on how one does it
(or point me somewhere where this is explained)?
