And library.org and library.net are taken, as are a total 1042 domains
that begin with "library" and 8166 that contain that string in the
domain name.

Sure, it might theoretically be nice, but it would be meaningless and
a waste of time and money.  Personally, I think that the new TLDs
won't be particularly useful or in demand, just as is the case now
with .org and .net.  The real cachet is in being a .com, and I don't
see that changing.

In addition, you can't count on the .library being limited to "real
libraries" (whatever that means), any more than you can count on .edu
being real four year higher educational institutions.  .edu has been
used by public school districts, junior colleges, proprietary one or
two year schools, and so forth.  You can be sure that someone will
quickly register porn.library, sex.library, and so forth....
