Electronic Resources Librarian

Athabasca University, Canada's Open University, invites applications
for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian in its Library
Services department. Reporting to the Director, the incumbent in this
position will work toward three goals: providing library users with the
tools and knowledge needed to be able to access AU Library resources,
developing self-service tools for remote users, and promoting electronic
resources to library users. This is a permanent position based
in the Town of Athabasca.

The Electronic Resources Librarian has the primary responsibility of
developing and maintaining the AU Library web site. This individual will
provide training and technical support to users of the library's web
pages, provide computer training to library staff, advise library staff
in dealing with technical issues, be responsible for developing and
maintaining the web and electronic reserve components of the
library system, monitor, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding
new technologies and standards as they relate to the library's core
functions, and provide reference assistance to AU Library users by
working on the Library Information Desk and assisting with reference as
the need arises.

The ideal candidate will have an MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library
school (or equivalent) and three to five years experience in developing,
organizing, and maintaining Internet or WWW sites. Experience using
Internet software, developing and maintaining web-based library
catalogues and web utilities is required. Experience using web browsers,
HTML, and proxy servers is required. Experience using databases (ACCESS,
MySQL), using a graphics program (PaintShop Pro), and developing
database driven web pages is required. Excellent interpersonal skills,
and oral and written communication skills are required.

Experience providing reference service and instruction to library users
in an academic library, and providing technical help to remote library
users is highly desirable. Experience with the INNOPAC library system,
digitizing documents, copyright, web servers, Windows NT and Unix/Linux
networking environments, troubleshooting computer hardware, and
supervision are definite assets.

Salary: $41,753 to $53,533 per annum, supplemented by a generous
benefits package.
