The Texas Heart Institute Library & Learning Resource Center invites
applications from qualified candidates for Informatics Education
Coordinator/Systems Administrator.

Brief Description of Responsibilities: Develop Library & Learning Resource
Center informatics training program; provide instruction and support.
Provide individualized consultation in information management and
presentation tools and skills. Provide presentation support for continuing
medical educational and post-doctoral conferences and THI-related
symposiums; utilize technical expertise and knowledge of presentation and
imaging software and hardware to continuously enhance the quality of
presentations. Implement new technologies and services to support continuing
medical education and post-doctoral programs. Administer NT and web server
and LAN for Library & Learning Resource Center. Oversee project
implementation and day-to-day operations of the NT/W95/W98-based local area
network (LAN) and integrated library system, SydneyPlus. Collaborate with
other departments to produce CD-ROM- and web-based continued education
offerings. Cross-train with co-workers in areas such as reference services.

Qualifications. Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and
information science, or a master’s degree in Instructional Design,
Educational Technologies, or equivalent. Two or more year’s experience with
distributed learning environments and technical expertise with installation
and maintenance of distributed applications; Internet-based educational
applications and technical resources. Strong background in use of
information technologies, especially databases, the Web and other Internet
applications, and information management tools. Demonstrated expertise with
presentation and imaging software. Prior experience in an academic health or
bio-sciences library or academically-affiliated clinical environment. Two or
more year’s experience administering a Windows/NT LAN, managing an
integrated library system, and managing a web server. Ability to work
independently, to function as a member of a team, and to handle several
different projects and responsibilities simultaneously. Ability to work
inter-departmentally on educational and technical projects, as needed.
Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including classroom
teaching experience.

The Library & Learning Resource Center. In the second half of 2001, the
Library & Learning Resource Center will move into a 10,000 sq. foot facility
in the new Denton A. Cooley building. Services will expand to include a
fully-networked teaching/conference room with teleconferencing capability, a
20-workstation public access area, small group study room, expanded space
for the specialized print and non-print collections, archives, and a virtual
reality training room. Physical proximity to Biocommunications and
Photography departments will facilitate inter-departmental cooperation and
collaboration. The Library & Learning Resource Center maintains its own LAN
and uses SydneyPlus online library system. The current collection includes
~4000 print and non-print titles and 100 subscriptions; the L&LRC
participates in a fee-based arrangement with the Houston Academy of
Medicine – Texas Medical Center Library providing access to hundreds of
electronic journals, textbooks and databases.


The Texas Heart Institute (THI). THI and its clinical partner, St. Luke's
Episcopal Hospital, both located on the Texas Medical Center campus, have

Institute's postdoctoral programs have trained more than 2,100 heart

Minimum salary: $34,812. Texas Heart Institute offers an excellent benefits
