  Job Description:

  Principal Librarian

  Definition: To perform advanced professional public library work in directing and coordinating a specialized library section (technical services) and to assist with special projects as necessary.

  Supervision:  Receives direction from the Library Director.

  Exercises direct supervision over assigned library staff (1 technical assistant; 1 clerk; 1 page).

  Duties:

  Plan, coordinate, and supervise activities and work related to the library's Technical Services section.

  Supervises and participates in the classifying and cataloging of library materials; verify sources for catalog and classification information; input card catalog information into computer; and perform quality control on processed items.

  Direct the maintenance of the book collection; supervise the processing of cataloged books.

  Monitor collection for areas in need of additional information or replacements; prepare book orders.

  Supervise and participate in activities related to the Lincoln Shrine, including maintaining special collections and municipal documents.

  Participation in the coordination of the security system.

  Supervise the ordering of library equipment; coordinate equipment maintenance and repair.

  Training:

  A Master of Library Science degree from an accredited college or university

  Experience:

  Three years of increasingly responsible professional public library experience including one year of supervisory experience
