Acting Head, Information Technology Services Division 
(Term to August 31, 2000)

The University of Saskatchewan Libraries invite applications for the term
position of Head, Information Technology Services Division.
 
Reports to: Acting Associate Director of Libraries.

Responsibilities: Responsible for providing leadership in the development
of information technology services for University of Saskatchewan
Libraries.  Responsible for planning and directing all activities of the
Information Technology Services Division, including a staff of 8 FTE plus
a large inventory of computer hardware and software.  Works closely with
library managers and staff to set priorities, resolve problems, and
develop innovative solutions.  Member of the Library Management Committee.
Chair of U-SEARCH Committee.

The IT Environment: University of Saskatchewan Libraries run the INNOPAC
integrated library system (release 12.1), U-SEARCH the locally developed
Web-based user interface, a large SilverPlatter ERL server, and several
other servers running Solaris, Digital UNIX, and Windows NT.  OCLC
SiteSearch is used for database development.  The desktop computer
inventory includes close to 400 networked staff and public workstations.

Qualifications: MLS degree, or equivalent, at least five years related
experience, and a thorough knowledge of current issues and trends in
information technology for libraries.  The incumbent must possess
demonstrated supervisory and management ability plus excellent
communication and interpersonal skills. Project management experience, and
knowledge of INNOPAC, SilverPlatter ERL, OCLC SiteSearch, AVISO, UNIX,
Perl, HTML, SGML, would be an asset.

Salary and Rank: Librarians are members of the Faculty Association and
terms and conditions of work are determined by the Collective Agreement
between the Association and the University.  The position is available now
until August 31, 2000, and will be filled at the rank of Librarian II or
III.  Salary range is $36,949 to $58,812 (under review).  Actual salary
and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
