Web Master/Web Administrator

The New York Academy of Medicine Division of Information Management seeks a
talented candidate to help design, develop and enhance its web presence.
This is a technically challenging position in an energetic atmosphere that
promotes career and technical growth.

Skills:
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- two to three years experience in web design and development; interest and
aptitude in Web site appearance, layout and other human factors
- experience developing and maintaining high profile, complex web sites
- ability to communicate articulately in both verbal and written mediums
- self-starter, energetic, comfortable working in an open, multi-discipline,
intense team environment.
- ability to collaborate with other technical communication experts, Academy
department representatives and internal and external Internet users.
- ability to conduct and participate in group decision-making.
- demonstrable proficiency in Perl and web-to-database connectivity and
other database enabled internet applications.
- proficiency with Adobe PhotoShop and/or similar graphic/multimedia
applications a plus.
- demonstrated technical and practical understanding of web server software
and hardware including experience with Apache Server or related web serving
applications.
- experience with the environment and technologies used at the Academy which
include the following:
- Sun SPARC Station 10 Solaris UNIX 2.6 with Java 1.1

Description:
Develops and manages the technical, day-to-day operation and maintenance of
the Academy's web site as well as the implementation of web-enabled
interactive solutions.  Works closely with the departments of the Academy in
planning and maintaining web site information and architecture. Reports to
the Director of Information Systems or designee. Evaluates and selects tools
and technologies for Internet, Extranet and Intranet development and
enhancements. Develops and installs web-based technical solutions for
database applications.  Provides for stable and high-speed connectivity to
existing network and proposes technologies used to support the information
demands of the Academy web sites. Proposes new ways to serve the Academy's
Internet users and web site visitors as well as ways that the Internet,
Extranet and Intranet can be used to increase Academy operational
efficiencies. Writes documentation to describe program developments, logic,
coding and corrections as well as documentation that describes installation
and operating procedures. As a member of the staff of the Department of
Information Systems, is responsible for solving operating problems with the
site. Serves as the technical consultant to the Academy's Web Committee.

Environment
The New York Academy of Medicine is a private, non-for-profit institution
established more than 150 years ago for the improvement of the public
health. It is home to several nationally recognized divisions, including the
Center for Urban Epidemiologic Studies, the Division of Health and Science
Policy, the Division of Public Health, and the Office of Urban Populations.
The Division of Information Management encompasses a prominent research
library, notable historic collections, and information systems for the
Academy.
