The position of Digital Technology Specialist in the Northwestern
University Library's Preservation department has come open. Tasks include;
investigate imaging and text conversion methods and formats for various
materials; perform computer application function and support analysis;
manage and archive data; program for metadata; Web page design; provide
server access to digital collections; research technological advances and
emerging practices in digital imaging for preservation and access. Will
serve as PC liaison and other duties as assigned. Required: Bachelor's
degree or equivalent. Knowledge of Windows 95 and/or NT in a network
environment. Experience with HTML/XML, Web design, graphics software, cgi
programming, imaging technology; understanding of bibliographic control
issues; demonstrated database and troubleshooting skills. Ability to
understand and evaluate technical concepts, be flexible in a dynamic work
environment, and work independently within a team framework. Strong oral
and written communication skills. Ability to take initiative, think
critically and work well with variety of people. Preferred: Experience
with DreamWeaver, OCR and user interface design. Knowledge of UNIX and/or
Macintosh environment, understanding of research libraries and/or
preservation. Supervisory experience. Minimum starting salary
