Might I argue that if you tell your users not to change the preferences,
then they do and that causes a crash, that it's their tough luck...?

I teach in my classes how to prevent a user from using the "set as
wallpaper" feature. However, the "solution" causes a crash if someone tries
to use this function. None of my students have seen the resulting crash as a
problem that needs to be fixed.
